DDC has been successfully
performing federally sponsored
research since its inception in
1983. In the early 80’s DDC
surveyed consumers of various
types for the Federal Trade
Commission (FTC) in support of
FTC false advertising litigation
efforts. These studies included
efforts to quantify the total
value of fraudulently sold art
work, efforts to identify time
share sales violations, efforts
to estimate financial losses
from malfunctioning consumer
products, and efforts to
document misleading sales
practices.
From the mid-80’s to the current
time, DDC has conducted a long
series of in-depth product
accident investigations for the
U.S. Consumer Product Safety
Commission (CPSC). In these
important studies, DDC has
conducted consumer interviews
ranging in length from five
minutes to sixty minutes or
longer. Many of the safety
improvements currently found in
consumer products that have
reduced death rates,
disabilities, and injuries have
been based on research sponsored
by CPSC. DDC has studied more
than 35 consumer product types
for CPSC, including: all terrain
vehicles; jet skis; lawnmowers;
baby walkers; nail guns;
playground equipment; ladders;
and medicine containers to name
just a few.
A number of Federal agencies
have utilized the research
program carried out by CPSC
under subcontract from one
agency to another.
DDC has conducted studies under
this arrangement for such
agencies as The Centers For
Disease Control (CDC), the
Occupation Safety and Health
Administration (OSHA), and The
National Institutes for Health (NIH).
During the 90’s, DDC continued
to conduct research for various
Federal agencies on a project by
project basis. In addition, DDC
was chosen by Federal Computer
Week (FCW) magazine to be the
data collector for its massive
and important assessment of past
performance in Federal
government contracts. Each year,
DDC conducted 3,000 interviews
of Federal employees, the
results of which were used by
FCW to rank the performance of
the top 101 information
technology, reseller,
accounting, and
telecommunications companies
providing services to the
Federal Government.
DDC recently conducted its ninth
wave of data collection in a
longitudinal study of field
staff ratings toward IT Help
Desk performance for the
National Weather Service.

consultants have past experience
