Two major “must reads”
were published in 2010, both by
the American Association for
Public Opinion Research (AAPOR),
that masterfully cover the
current state-of-the-art of
research on research on the two
major methods of concern to
DDC.
The first was the “AAPOR Report on Online Panels,” Public
Opinion Quarterly, Vol, 74, No.
4, Winter 2010, Reg Baker et al,
Oxford Journals, pp 711-781.
Nineteen top survey design
experts from academia,
government, and private sector
organizations collaborated to
produce a powerful assessment of
when Opt-In online panels might
best be utilized and how to
judge their quality. This is a
“must read” for any client
funding opt-in online research,
or for the research contractor
that conducts opt-in online
research for them.
The second was a report prepared by the AAPOR Cell Phone Task Force,
2010. This 136 page report
summarizes the current
state-of-the-art in telephone
sampling methods and provides
“some new insights into and
recommendations for conducting
survey research via cell phone.”
Titled, “New Considerations
for Survey Researchers When
Planning and Conducting RDD
Telephone Surveys in the U.S.
With Respondents Reached Via
Cell Phone Numbers,” the
report was authored by Paul J.
Lavrakas, Task Force Chair, and
20 top researchers from some of
the nation’s most prestigious
academic, government, and
private sector survey
organizations. Again, this is a
“must read” publication for
anyone funding or conducting
telephone surveys of the general
public.
